Period Growth of a Child


Growth of a Child
Children replicate the distinctive pattern of actions and success as they grow from the age of four to five years. Parents need to spend ample time with their children as much as they can during which they enjoy and learn simultaneously as per the research. By recognizing the sequence of growth will make it easier for parents what to expect from their child at what age, which will provide them with a sense of satisfaction regarding the growth of their children.

Age 2 Years

Physical Development

Child starts walking easily, even starts stepping alone, can set himself happily in chair; can gain state of toileting freely which of course is a great sigh of relief to the parents. Tries to get dressed all by themselves and can also kick the ball. Studies reveal that a child at two years of age can build a tower of six cubes!

Social Development:

A child is at a very crucial level of social development at this age and requires constant parental attention and guidance, though one can expect a reply to simple instructions at this age from a child. Studies suggest that a child at this age starts playing with dolls and can remember his own name.

Emotional Development

Child starts taking pleasure in physical affection from the age of two. A child at times become self-centered at this age and has no power to change. Possessive and irritated at times, but sense of own identity and personal belonging starts developing at this age.

Intellectual Development:

Child starts taking notice of books and can make out simple pictorial forms. His attention span may be short, but can speak words, short and simple sentences and phrases.

Age - 3 Years

Physical Development:

At this age, a child can run and can ride a tricycle. He achieves sense of buttoning and unbuttoning at the age of 3. He can wear shoes and stockings on his own. Studies reveal that a child of 3 years of age can build a tower of 10 cubes.

Social Development

Child attains a sense of gender at this age mean knowledge of self being a girl or a boy. He can turn and take part in group activities that doesn’t require special skills.

Emotional Development

A child doesn’t show resistance to changes in this age and is more secure. He starts developing an adventurous instinct at this age and becomes more sincere and likes hearing music at this age.

Intellectual Development

Child of this age starts telling short stories and rhymes as part of intellectual development. He can match thoughts and words aptly and look at the surrounding environment to understand it. He develops imagination powers and can answer questions now.

Age – 4 Years

Physical Development

A child is able to skip one foot at this age. He can now make use of scissors though not perfect and can dress himself finely as per the need. Studies suggest that children of this age can be confident to catch the overhead throw of a ball.

Social Development

Child looks for a company and gains a sense of playing in small groups. He becomes talkative and shows flexibility in his manners as per the child development studies.

Emotional Development

Studies advice that parents are required to give controlled freedom to the child at this age as he gains levels of confidence and can break all boundaries by riding on his self confidence. He can even put himself in testing quite often and many times replies rebelliously.

Intellectual Development

At this age, a child’s imagination power is on a high and makes him ask many questions related to the surroundings, existence, rules and regulations, society and rituals. He starts generalizing and tries to draw simple objects that are quite familiar to him.

Age - 5 Years

Physical Development

Child can now dress up without any help and his muscles can provide him a smoother action, even allowing him to skate. He likes to hold steering of scooters and wagon trying to run them

Social Development

He makes his choices of special friends with whom he likes to play and enjoy with. He likes the environment of school and is now in the process of social development.

Emotional Development

A child starts enjoying mother’s association at this age. He accepts the rules and self-criticism. He is more home-centric and has a sense of responsibility delivering it quite often.

Intellectual development

Child is now capable of telling long tales and can count up to 10. He can now recognize colors and keeps asking meanings of words mostly for parents. He is more interested in new places, stories, surrounding atmosphere etc.
